05 Blade

Writer: CP Fraise authorCP Fraise author

I stared down at the man in front of me. I didn’t need to look behind me, there were no exits, no way to run. This was… This was not a good place to be in.

I eyed him wearily. He wasn’t the first and he be wouldn’t the last coming at me like that. I was just a little luckier than usual, he was alone. At least for now. It didn’t really matter. I had once taken five men in one fell swoop, part training, part luck.

What all these people had in common, apart from seeing an easy contract in me, was that they never saw me coming. I might looked caged in and out of options, but I had one more trick up my sleeves, including the knife tucked inside my clothes. Well, knives, if you wanted to get technical about it.

He approached, like a big cat toying with his prey. I was five feet five, nothing compared to his six feet. I smiled and there was a microsecond hesitation on his part and unease registered across his face.

He lunged at me and I rolled away in one easy move, retrieving the blade tucked away in my left sleeve and in less than ten seconds, I had him pinned against the wall the blade resting firmly at his exposed throat.
